ramblings
You might have clicked on ‘ramblings’ just out of curiosity for what you will encounter. Or because you have a secret wish to, just now, be out there and have a little stroll yourself. Get lost for a moment, ramble for a while. Without knowing your exact next step or direction.
An African proverb goes ‘in order to find your way, you must become lost’, a lostness that refers to melting the edges between the traveller and his environment, the pilgrim and the pilgrimage. Bayo Akomolafe beautifully describes this lostness as ’the world researching itself, iteratively and materially re/configuring what it means to be on a journey…much in the same way that a wave doesn’t travel across the ocean, it is the ocean in its ongoing complexity. As such, ‘becoming lost’ is really about losing the specificity of our boundaries; it is about shapeshifting, colluding with plants and rocks and wind, and becoming fine enough to meet the challenge of a dead-end. Perhaps it is more about noticing that we are the dead ends we confront, we are the monsters on our path. It is about broadening our spectrum enough to see that ‘the way ahead’ is not as demanding and as exclusive as our frantic maps make it out to be, but a promiscuous field of threadbare possibilities wanting to be stitched.’’
This is my way of practising this kind of lostness, opening a space where I can share my wandering thoughts and surfacing art with the world.
So here we are with some of my wandering and experiencing as I move through different contexts & spaces. From playground visions to ‘Momentaufnahmen’ and general streams of thought.
What a time to be alive & human,
what a time to be lost together,
what a time to share about it!
